The grandparents of a West Virginia teen found dead “emaciated to a skeletal state” have joined the girl’s mother in jail.
Donna Sue Stone, 76, and Jerry Carter Stone, 75, have been charged with child neglect resulting in death, WOWK reported.
As CrimeOnline reported, Julie Miller was arrested in April on the same charge after the 14-year-old girl was found dead in a bathroom. According to court documents, a grandmother told deputies that the girl had not attended school since late 2019 or early 2020 and had rarely even ventured outside the house.
The complaint against Miller said the girl had an eating disorder, but Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said during the press conference that investigators had not found a diagnosis. The grandmother said the girl had been unable to function for several days and hadn’t eaten in months.
A family member identified the girl as Kyneddi Miller, WOWK said. The complaint against her mother said that the girl’s “clear and distinct physical problems” showed that her mother had gotten no help for her in at least four years, causing her death.
Neighbors told the station that the grandparents were respected members of the community and that they believe Kyneddi’s weight loss came on suddenly, although they hadn’t seen the girl in years. They said they believed the family was planning to get her help.
Julie Miller is being held on a $250,000 bond, while the Stones were given $25,000 bonds.
