A disgruntled employee “took his anger out” on his coworkers as they arrived for their morning shifts on Wednesday, gunning down five people and killing two of them.

Delaware County, Pennsylvania, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said the shooting was reported at 8:30 a.m. at Delaware County Linen, an industrial laundry and linen company in Chester, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.

“We’re here for an absolute tragedy,” Stollsteimer said. “This is a story that plays out too often in the United States of America.”

Stollsteimer said two of the three surviving victims were listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. Chester Mayor Stefan Roots said that one of the victims was a supervisor, but it wasn’t clear if that person was a fatality.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody several blocks away, not far from where he lived with his family, police sources and employees of the business said. They also said that he and his family had moved to Chester from their native Puerto Rico in recent months.

Delaware County Linen is a family-owned business that provides linen to hotels, restaurants, and other clients and has been in business since 1988. About 50 people were scheduled to work Wednesday morning at the bueiness, where most are Spanish speakers from multiple countries.

Employees said the gunman was a recent hire, but one who had been problematic in the workplace, WPVI reported.

“A lot of people put a complaint for him in the office,” one woman said. “No listen.”

She said he was aggressive and often openly carried a gun on his belt.

Employee Eric Spencer said the incident began as an argument between several coworkers, including the gunman.

“I was standing there for a minute but then I walked away because I don’t understand Spanish. Next thing you know, I turned around, he pulled a gun out of his pocket and point-blank range, just like that,” he said.

Spencer said he had argued with the man on Tuesday.

Officials found a gun in the suspect’s car, WPVI said, but it isn’t clear if that was the weapon used in the shooting. Officials said murder charges are likely to be filed on Thursday.
