The search warrant executed at the home of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has concluded, a family lawyer confirmed.
News 14 reports that lawyer Robert Macedonio stated that the search appeared to focus on the Massapequa Park home’s basement.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Macedonio said the family home is currently empty. Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, and her son are in South Carolina. He said the couple’s daughter, Victoria Heuermann, is staying elsewhere, but she was reportedly seen entering the residence with Macedonio during the latest search.
In a statement last week, the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office said the search is part of an ongoing investigation and officials “do not comment on investigative steps while ongoing.”
Police arrested the Manhattan architect in July for the deaths of three of the four women known collectively as the “Gilgo Four.” The bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010. All four women were buried in burlap sacks.
Heuermann was initially charged with six counts of murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27. Earlier this year, he was charged with the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who vanished in 2007.
All four women were reportedly advertising as sex workers when they vanished.
Heuermann pleaded not guilty to Brainard-Barnes’ murder and previously pleaded not guilty to the other three murders. His attorney, Michael Brown, submitted the not-guilty plea on Heuremann’s behalf.
Heuremann remains behind bars at Suffolk County jail.
