A Utah man who was arrested last month for killing his father with a hatchet was criminally charged with threatening to kill a man who was selling him puppies.
KUTV reported that the incident with the puppies happened on April 25, a day before Jeremy Pulver, 46, killed his 72-year-old father. Pulver allegedly told police that he tried other methods to kill his father — including putting a bag over his head — before he was successful.
KUTV said Pulver was his father’s live-in caretaker for eight years. Pulver allegedly told police that his father asked him to kill him, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Charging documents filed on May 13 stated that Pulver was expected to drop off a deposit for a puppy. He reportedly missed the appointment, and the seller told him the puppies were sold.
Before leaving in his car, Pulver reportedly pointed a gun at the seller and threatened to “blow him up.”
After the ordeal, Pulver went to his father’s home in West Valley. A caretaker of the home told police that Pulver’s father knew the cops were looking for Pulver because he pulled a gun on someone. The caretaker said she left for the night because she feared Pulver, KSL reported.
The caretaker reportedly returned home the next day to find Pulver in a car in the driveway. He allegedly told the caretaker that he killed his father and put baking soda in his mouth.
According to KSL, Pulver’s father was found with head trauma under a pile of clothes on a bed. Charging documents indicated that he had baking soda in his mouth and his injuries were consistent with a hatchet attack.
Investigators described Pulver as “a normal guy unless he was under the influence of drugs — then he was angry, aggressive and unpredictable,” according to KSL.
Pulver is charged with first-degree felony murder, second-degree felony obstruction of justice, third-degree felony use of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of a controlled substance, and use of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He remains jailed without bond.
