Boyfriend Tricks Pregnant Girlfriend Into Taking Abortion Pills by Claiming They Are Vitamins

A Massachusetts man was arrested on Friday for allegedly secretly giving his girlfriend abortion pills to end her pregnancy.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said Robert Kawada, 43, gave his pregnant girlfriend medications and claimed they were iron pills and vitamins. The medications Kawada gave his girlfriend included Misoprostol — a drug that induces abortions, according to Boston.com.

Kawada’s girlfriend reportedly suffered a miscarriage as a result. Prosecutors claimed he gave his girlfriend the pills earlier this month, WBZ reported.

For reference, the National Institutes of Health says, “The combination of misoprostol and mifepristone is FDA-approved for medical abortions. In instances where mifepristone is unavailable, a misoprostol-only regimen is the recommended alternative.”

Arraigned on Tuesday, Kawada is charged with poisoning, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a pregnant person, and assault and battery on a household or family member. His bail was set at $100,000.
