A new law is heading to desk of Governor Jeff Landry that would allow judges to order surgical castration of men and woman convicted of child rape.

The law would allow a judge order a man’s testicles or a woman’s ovaries removed if they are over 17 and the victim is under 13, according to WWL.

“I know the surgical castration seems excessive,” said state Rep. Delisha Boyd. “I view the same for the five-year-old, for the 10-year-old, for the 12-year-old.”

Boyd said the law would allow the convict to refuse the procedure, in which case a longer sentence will be imposed. “I would have liked to change that,” she said.

Chemical castration is already legal in Louisiana.

The new bill is expected to face legal challenges if Landry signs it, Fox News reported.
