A crazed driver yelled he was going to “kill all the Jews” as he tried to run over Orthodox students and a rabbi outside a Jewish school in Brooklyn on Wednesday.
The attacker was apprehended and identified as Asghar Ali, 58, a native of Pakistan with a history of mental illness, the New York Post reported. He faces more than a dozen charges related to the rampage, including attempted murder, attempted assault, and hate crimes.
This subject jumped the curb, attempting to mow down pedestrians while shouting antisemitic slurs. Thanks to the outstanding collaborative efforts between our volunteers, @BPShomrim, and @ShomrimCH volunteers, he was ultimately apprehended and arrested by @NYPD63Pct. pic.twitter.com/Cur0MMmhRS

Surveillance video showed Ali turn onto the street in front of Mesivta Nachlas Yakov School and then veer toward a group of students, driving up over the sidewalk in front of the building. He drove around the block and came back, targeting two more students and a rabbi.
Witnesses said he was yelling antisemitic slurs and “I’m gonna kill all the Jews” as he drove his car wildly, WNYW reported.
No one was hit by his car as the victims ran into the building.
Ali fled the scene but members of the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol, organized to help protect the community, found him when he stopped at a nearby Dunkin’ and called in police, who quickly took him into custody, the Post said.
Police sources said Ali has lived in the United States for more than 20 years and is considered an “emotionally disturbed” person. He has been arrested on four previous occasions and doesn’t have a valid cab license even though he says he is a cab driver.
“We were very pleased to be able to apprehend this individual,” Bob Moskovitz, executove coordinator of the Shomrim patrol, said. “This is not somebody that we want driving around the streets, especially with this anti-Semitic, anti-Jewish climate that’s out there. So we were glad to be able to put this to rest. The community was kind of uptight about this. Now everybody can be a little more relaxed.”
