Nebraska police said an elderly woman was pronounced dead on Monday — only for it to be discovered that she was still alive at the funeral home.
Constance Glantz, 74, was initially pronounced dead at The Mulberry nursing home in Waverly, where she had been undergoing hospice care. Glantz was transported to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral in Lincoln — where staff discovered she was still alive while preparing her body for burial, according to KOLN.
Reports indicated that Glantz had been deemed dead for two hours before the mistake was realized.
KOLN reported that funeral home staff called 911 while performing CPR on Glantz. Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded and transported Glantz to the hospital, where she died hours later.
“The funeral home did nothing wrong. They are the ones that found that she was still alive,” Lancaster County police Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.
According to KETV, Houchin said there is no evidence of a crime in this case. An investigation is ongoing.
