New Jersey prosecutors have charged a 25-year-old man with stabbing his mother to death while she slept.
Howell Township police responded to the home around 1:30 a.m. on Monday and found Loretta Parody, 61, stabbed in the chest, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
“The first arriving officers quickly located Robert Parody and took him into custody without incident,” the office said.
Investigators did not say who alerted them to the stabbing or whether Robert Parody was located on the scene.
“An investigation involving members of the Major Crimes Bureau and the Howell Township Police Department revealed that Robert Parody had entered his mother’s bedroom and stabbed her in the chest while she slept,” the prosecutor’s office said. “He remains lodged at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a detention hearing.”
Parody is charged with murder. Investigators have not disclosed a motive, whether Parody lived at the home with his mother, or whether anyone else was home at the time.
