Family and friends of a recent Morehouse College of Medicine graduate are demanding a thorough investigation after she was found dead in a wooded area last week.
DeKalb County Police say that Diamond Clarke, 28, was last seen at her home in Decatur on May 28. Her boyfriend told them the two argued, Clarke left, and never came back, WANF reports.
Police say her body was found the next day in a wooded area in Lithonia, about 15 miles away. She had a gunshot wound to the head, and her car was found abandoned nearby.
Darren Anglin, a close friend of Clarke’s, said that her phone issued a “crash alert” that afternoon. The phone was found in Clarke’s driveway.
“If I’m not mistaken, there were five rounds found on the scene and Diamond suffered a gunshot wound to the head. We want to better understand who the owner of the gun may be. How the gun was discharged,” Algin said.
Police say Clarke’s death appears to be a suicide, but the county medical examiner will make a final determination about cause and manner of death. And Anglin says the family doesn’t believe Clarke would commit suicide.
“Now that she’s gone, the family is looking for justice for this woman who dedicated her entire life to seeking justice and life for others,” he said.
The Morehouse School of Medicine said taht Clarke volunteered at the school’s H.E.A.L. Clinic was was received the 2023 Excellence in Public Health Award and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians T.A. Sappington MD Award. A celebration of life is scheduled in her hometown of Albany on Saturday.
