Alex Jones to Sell Stake in InfoWars to Pay off $1.5 Billion Sandy Hook Lawsuit

On Thursday, Infowars’ Alex Jones asked a judge to convert his personal bankruptcy to Chapter 7 liquidation — setting the stage for his media outlet to be dissolved to pay a $1.5 billion judgment to Sandy Hook victims’ families.

CNN reported the families have received no money from Jones, who lost civil cases in Texas and Connecticut in 2022. Attorney Avi Moshenberg, who represents some of the plaintiffs, said the liquidation means Jones’ “ownership in Free Speech Systems is going to get sold.”

Jones did not have control over Free Speech Systems, which had already filed for bankruptcy protection. A court-appointed restructuring officer is overseeing the company, and a hearing regarding the pending bankruptcy is scheduled for next Friday.

CNN reported that Jones selling his stake in InfoWars does not mean the conspiracy news outlet will cease operations as the business could be sold to someone else.

In 2012, Adam Lanza killed his mother before entering Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and fatally shooting 20 children and six adults. Lanza then turned the gun on himself.

Over the years, Sandy Hook shooting victims’ families have faced unfounded accusations—  fanned by Jones and his cohorts —  that they faked their children’s deaths.

Specifically, Jones said on his platform that the 2012 mass shooting was a “false flag” operation committed by “crisis actors.” At some points, the victims’ families have had to prove their slain children’s existence.

Families of eight shooting victims and an FBI agent were awarded a default judgment in Connecticut in October 2022. In that case, Jones defaulted on the defamation trial because he repeatedly failed to provide the court with business records detailing his controversial company’s profits.
