Who killed Texas mom Missy Bevers? Eight years later, there are still no arrests, despite extensive investigations by multiple law enforcement agencies.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Midlothian police found Bevers bludgeoned dead inside the Creekside Church of Christ on April 18, 2016. As a Camp Gladiator fitness instructor, she arrived to the church a little after 4 a.m. Within around 30 minutes, she was murdered.
Security footage showed Bevers walking through the church doors to prepare for the morning’s workout session. The suspect, dressed in a police SWAT-like uniform, lied in wait, then attacked her with a weapon, causing numerous puncture wounds on her head and chest.
“Who singles out the Creekside church in Midlothian, at 4 a.m. in the morning, for Pete’s sake?” Nancy Grace asked during Thursday’s “Crime Stories.”
The suspect, according to security footage, has a distinctive and unusual walk, which has been a significant focus of the investigation. The walk is characterized by a unique gait and uneven stride, a possible limp and an exaggerated side-to-side motion.
Because of this, and since the suspect wore a puffy, padded jacket, it’s been difficult for experts to determine whether the perpetrator is male of female.
“My initial thought was that it was a male and then the more I looked at it the more I looked that certain traits that were going on in the video. I am comfortable thinking it’s a female,” former NYPD detective and co-Host of the GOLD SHIELDS podcast told Grace.
“The one thing that really stood out to me was in one particular part of the video she uses the hammer to break a window… Now, not that females can wield a hammer like a male, but just the way she hit one of the windows did it for me that it was a female. Just the kind of the way she did it is what triggered it for me.”
Professor of Forensics at Jacksonville State University and author of “Blood Beneath My Feet,” Joseph Scott Morgan, added that whoever the suspect is, it’s likely someone who knew the environment.
“I can tell you this. The person that perpetrated this crime had an awareness of that environment so much to the point that they felt the need to cover their face so they knew that they would be in amongst cameras with video surveillance.”
Meanwhile, although specific details about the type of weapon used have not been officially disclosed by investigators, President of the Waxahachie Sun, Scott Brooks, said Bevers was likely killed with a screwdriver, according to “sources that we have that saw Missy’s body within hours after her death.”
A $150,000 reward is offered for information resulting in an arrest and grand jury indictment. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Midlothian Police Department at (972) 775-3333.
