A North Carolina man was arrested this week and charged with the murder of a 67-year-old woman who had arranged to sell him an item through an online marketplace.
Troy Marquise Gillard has been charged with first degree murder in the death of Kathryn Holmes, robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and fugitive from justice, the Greensboro Police Department said.
Gillard was arrested on Wednesday in Winston-Salem, the Greensboro News & Record said.
According to the News & Record, officers were called for a traffic accident on Denny Road on the morning of May 24 and found Holmes in the car with a gunshot wound. The accident took place because of the shooting, police said.
Holmes’ daughter told the newspaper that her mother was shot in the neck and was unable to move her foot from the accelerator, causing the crash.
Holmes was taken to a local hospital but died two days later.
Court documents say Gillard robbed Holmes of her wedding band and engagement ring, WXII reported.
Gillard is being held without bond and has an October 1 court appearance scheduled, the News & Record said.
