‘There were many red flags’: Mom-of-3 Elementary School Teacher Shot Dead Inside Illinois Home Amid Bitter Divorce

An Illinois mother was found shot multiple times by in her home last month, allegedly at the hands of her own husband.

According to the Norman Police Department, the incident happened on May 29 in the 3000 block of Red Jasper Street in Normal. The victim, identified as Amy Moore, 46, a teacher at Grove Elementary School, was fatally shot by Matthew Moore, 46 who then turned the gun on himself.

“The preliminary evidence shows the male suspect, Matthew S. Moore illegally entered the incident residence. It is believed the suspect confronted the victim and shot the victim multiple times. It is then believed the suspect, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police said.

WGLT reports that the couple had a tempestuous relationship; their divorce was in its final filing a week before the incident. Multiple protection orders were filled throughout their two-year legal battle against Matthew Moore, who allegedly had bouts with “toxic behavior and grandiose utterances.”

The couple had three children, ages 12, 11 and 7.

“There were many red flags, many phone calls, many trips to lawyers to try and address this. I think for sure the entire system let her down. This is something that, with the number of incidents we’ve had over the years, they should’ve never been in the same room at the same time, ever. It should have been impossible for that to happen,” the victim’s brother, Thoma Burns said.

Meanwhile, Thomas has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help raise funds for the children.
