Police in Virginia continue to search for a missing Amherst County woman who mysteriously vanished a year ago.
According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Elsie Wiggington’s family has made several calls to report her missing since June 2023, but investigators initially said she had left voluntarily.
Family members said she had expressed fears for her life before she vanished, and arranged to meet a friend in Maryland, but never arrived.
ABC 13 reports that Wiggington worked as the Director of Nursing at Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center. It was a job she enjoyed, family members said, adding that she would never leave without telling her children and grandchildren her location.
Earlier this month, loved ones “took matters into their own hands” in an attempt to locate her.
“Me and the community, we’ve put a search together today. We’re going to give out flyers to the local community and to Elsie’s neighborhood, just to bring out awareness and hopefully get some answers,” Elsie’s half sister, Victoria Seal, told ABC 13.
“It’s gonna keep Elsie’s name at the front of everybody’s lists because it brings awareness to the community and also to people who may know answers so that they can come forth.”
Wiggington is described as a white female who stands 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs around 145 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes, and a heart tattoo with the name “Frederick” in the middle.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office at 434-946-9300.
