An Ohio woman took a last minute plea deal in the stabbing death of a teen girl last year that could see her avoid jail time.

The trial of Bryanna Barozzini, 20, for the murder of Halia Culbertson, 17, in March 2023 was set to begin this week. As CrimeOnline previously reported, witnesses said that Barozzini and Culbertson got into a fight inside a Columbus smokeshop. The fight escalated a spilled outside, where Barozzini stabbed Culbertson in the neck and left for her home in the well-to-do suburb of Westerville.

Defense attorneys said the stabbing was in self defense, and prosecutors agreed on Monday to drop murder charges against her.

Hours before jury selection in the trial was to begin, Barozzini and prosecutors came to the deal that called for a guilty plea to a charge of involuntary manslaughter, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Barozzini’s defense is seeking probation, but prosecutors want the maximum sentence — three years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

In court on Monday, Common Please Judge Mark Serrott told Barozzini’s scumbag attorney that he would have denied his motion to prevent prosecutors from presenting text message Barozzini sent the week before the killing which would have undercut the self-defense plea.

Court records say the texts include “I’d sooner slice (Culbertson’s) throat if she comes near me again” and “I will cut that (expletive) on my whole family if she tries showing up to my family’s home again.”

Barozzini’s sentencing is set for July 11. He told Barozzini on Monday he was leaning toward prison.
