Repeat Rapist Who Always Pleads Guilty to Non-Sex Assault Charges Arrested AGAIN

A North Carolina woman is in critical condition after she was raped last week by a suspect who has been charged multiple times in the past with sex crimes.

The suspect, Robert Voorhees, has been allowed to plead guilty to non-sex crime charges for nearly 20 years, however, thus avoiding having to register as a sex offender.

According to WYFF, Voorhees was charged in 2015 with criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. Detectives said at the time they were familiar with him because he  “assaulted numerous females in the same area.”

WYFF found that Voorhees pleaded guilty to indecent exposure three times between 2003 and 2007, assault and battery of a high aggravated nature in 2007, and first degree assault and battery in 2012. He has never been on the state’s sex offender registry, despite the detectives’ extensive knowledge of his activities.

“If you look at the offenses he has been convicted of — not charged with, but convicted of  –they have not been related to the sexual offense, but what he’s been convicted of are not sexually offensive,” Greenville Police Lt. Lt. Jason Rampey told the station in 2015.

In the 2015 case, the rape charge was dismissed when he pleaded guilty to assault and battery. He has multiple other charges on his record in Greenville County, including weapons charges and driving violations, along with civil complaints.

In the June 8 case, police said that woman told police she met Voorhees earlier in the night and that he attacked her between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. He has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, criminal sexual conduct, and kidnapping.
