Pop star Justin Timberlake appeared in a Suffolk County court in New York on Tuesday to plead not guilty to a drunk driving charge.
The former boy band singer was arrested early Tuesday morning in The Hamptons after leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, where he had dinner, PEOPLE reported. He was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment Tuesday morning.
A Sag Harbor police officer pulled over his 2025 BMW after he ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane, The Associated Press reported.
“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the court papers said.
Timberlake, 43, reportedly told the officer he had one martini and was following friends home, the court documents said. He was taken to a police station in East Hampton, where he refused a breath test. The court documents show Timberlake listed his occupation as “professional” and said he is “self-employed.”
The former Mouseketeer was charged with a driving while intoxicated misdemeanor. He is due in court again on July 26. In addition to the DWI, Timberlake was cited for running the stop sign and failing to maintain his lane, PEOPLE said.
Newsday reported earlier that the 10-time Grammy winner is currently touring with “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour” and is scheduled to appear in Chicago on Friday and Saturday and at Madison Square Garden in New York next week.
