South Carolina Man Charged With Machete Murder of Construction Site Co-Worker

A temporary employee at a South Carolina construction site was arrested Wednesday afternoon for hacking a co-worker to death with a machete.

The North Charleston Police Department charged Tyrone Clayton Campbell, 33, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, WCIV reported.

Investigators said that Campbell and the victim, both temporary employees, got into an argument just before 3 p.m. Witnesses said Campbell shoved the victim to the ground and hacked him with the machete, then stood over him swinging the machete around before walking out of the construction site. He immediately encountered police officers on the sidewalk.

Campbell had put the machete into a bag before walking out but pulled it out again when officers confronted him. He refused orders to drop the weapon, so officers used a taser to subdue him.

He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.
