A young boy has died following a “medical incident” at a California water park on Saturday.
A spokesperson for Wild Rivers Water Park in Irvine told KCAL the incident was not a drowning.
“It was a medical incident and he was transferred to (Children’s Hospital of Orange County,” the spokesperson said. “Further details will be provided as they become available. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
Irvine Police said they were called the scene earlier in the day for “medical aid.”
“A juvenile was transported to the hospital and sadly passed away,” the department said. “It does not appear the incident is water-related.”
No further details, including the child’s age, were made available.
Wild Rivers operated as a water park in Orange County from 1986 until 2011 on the site of the old Lion Country Safari. It reopened in a new location in 2022.
