A Florida man shot and killed three women, including his mother, before he was killed Monday night in a shootout with deputies near the Georgia state line.
Manatee County deputies responded to the Motel 6 in Bradenton shortly after 9 p.m. and found a 48-year-old woman dead from gunshot wounds. Witnesses on the scene told them that the woman was the mother of 28-year-old Javontee Brice, who had come to the motel and gunned her down.
The witnesses said he fled the scene and may have been heading to Georgia.
About 30 minutes later, the deputies were called to Palmetto, where they found a 28-year-old woman sitting inside a parked SUV. Palmetto police officers attempted lifesaving measures, but she died an hour later.
Witnesses again identified Brice as the suspect.
At about 10 p.m., the deputies were notified of a third shooting, again in Bradenton, where Bradenton police found another woman shot and Brice identified as the suspect. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert for Brice’s vehicle, and at about 1:30 a.m., deputies in Hamilton County spotted the vehicle on Interstate 75 near the state line, WCTV reported.
Hamilton County deputies followed the car to a closed service station, where Brice allegedly got out of the vehicle and fired at the deputies, who returned fire and killed him.
Hamilton County officials said a woman who had been in the car with the suspect got out and ran when he stopped the car. Deputies said she is cooperating with them and not facing any charges.
Meanwhile, back in Manatee County, deputies heard from further witnesses that Brice was headed to Georgia to kill someone else.
The names of the victims have not been released, and the case is still under investigation.
