Missouri K-9 Officer Dies After He’s Left in a Hot Car

A Missouri K-9 officer died last week after he was left in a hot car overnight.

Savannah Chief of Police David Vincent said Officer Horus died after completing his overnight shift and that his death is under investigation, WDAF reported.

Savannah is a small town north of St. Joseph in western Missouri.

“Due to this being an open investigation, there will be no further information released until the investigation is completed,” Vincent said. “The entire department would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we deal with the loss of our partner, Horus.”

The department did not provide further information about the dog’s death, including the name of his handler and what that officer’s status currently is.

“The Andrew County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is deeply saddened to learn of K-9 Horus’ passing,” Andrew County prosecuting attorney Monica J. Morrey, who has taken on the case, said. “We are grateful to him for his service to our community. I have requested a special investigation through the Missouri State Highway Patrol. I will await the results of this investigation prior to making any determination of necessary action.”

Horus joined the Savannah Police Department in February 2021.
