Another Hot Car Death: Mom’s Boyfriend Leaves 6-Year-Old Girl in 115-Degree Car

On Tuesday, Florida police arrested a man whose girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter died in May after she was left in his car for several hours.

On May 20, Markise Outing, 24, brought his girlfriend’s daughter to the Southern Manatee Fire Department Station as she was not breathing and possibly in cardiac arrest. The girl was pronounced dead that night, after doctors determined she had a body temperature of 107.2 degrees, according to WWSB.

Outing allegedly claimed the girl got overheated at the park. However, GPS data determined she was in Outing’s car for several hours as it was parked outside his job, WWSB reported.

Officials believe temperatures in Outing’s vehicle reached 115 degrees. While an autopsy confirmed the girl died of hyperthermia, a toxicology report is pending.

Outing is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. He remains jailed without bond.

Four children have died in hot cars this year, including the 6-year-old girl in Bradenton. According to No Heat Stroke, 29 children died of vehicular heatstrokes in 2023.
