Missouri Woman Spikes Hubby’s Mountain Dew With Roundup Because He Wasn’t ‘Appreciative’ of Birthday Party

A Missouri woman has been charged with spiking her husband’s Mountain Dew with the pesticide Roundup because he didn’t appreciate the 50th birthday party she threw him.

Michelle Y. Peters, 47, is charged with domestic assault and armed criminal action and is being held without bond, KYTV reported.

Leclede County Sheriff’s Office investigators say that Peters added Roundup to the soft drink on several occasions and May and and June and also used a pesticide.

“It is a different type of domestic assault,” said Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap.

Peters’ husband reported that he was feeling ill after drinking Mountain Dew and that it tasted “weird,” although it tasted normal when he drank it away from home, Law&Crime reported. After a couple of weeks, he said, he had a sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, and was coughing up mucus. That’s when he checked surveillance footage in the garage and saw his wife carrying a bottle of Mountain Dew and a container of Roundup into the house.

“(The husband) said the video showed Michelle (Peters) taking a two-liter bottle of Diet Mountain Dew out of the garage refrigerator and a bottle of Roundup weed killer into the house,” the affidavit states. “(He) said that Michelle (Peters) then returned the soda to the refrigerator and put the Roundup back on the shelf in the garage.”

Peters initially told investigators she was creating a “weed-killer that she saw on Pinterest,” but eventually admitted she spiked the drink because she was angry about his response the the birthday party.

“The investigation will reveal more as we go to court as to the totality of all of the circumstances. Is there more to the story? Yes, there is. All that comes out in court,” said Millsap, according to KYTV.

Peters was arrested on Monday and entered a not guilty plea.
