An investigation is underway in Texas after a missing 12-year-old girl was found dead in a lake on Thursday.
Aisha Adebayo is believed to have wandered from her Fulshear home on Wednesday night, eight hours before her body was found in a nearby lake. Adebayo’s parents said their daughter was autistic and nonverbal — and that they had installed extra locks on the doors and windows because she had left the house before, according to KHOU.
Fulshear police believe Adebayo drowned, but a medical examiner will confirm her cause of death.
Police captain Mike McCoy said surveillance footage showed Adebayo on a street. A K9 reportedly followed the same path Adebayo took in that video, according to KTRK.
At this point in time, there is no indication Adebayo was led to the location where she was found deceased.
