A Florida woman was arrested this week after she allegedly ran over her boyfriend and their 16-month-old son, who remains hospitalized with severe injuries.
Aaliyah Ross, 27, was charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated domestic battery, negligent child abuse, domestic battery, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, WWSB reported.
The infant suffered a broken collar bone, multiple broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and multiple abrasions and bruising. The 25-year-old boyfriend was treated for bruising on his body and lungs and was released from the hospital.
Polk County police said Ross and the boyfriend got into an argument, which escalated. Ross put two other children, 4-year-old and 6-months-old, in her car and got into the driver’s seat. The boyfriend picked up the baby and ran, but Ross rammed into them and then crashed the vehicle into a trailer and left the scene.
Ross reportedly told police she had driven at the man on several occasions in the past and always swerved at the last second. She said she assumed he would move out of the way, but he didn’t.
“Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby. Someone who does this to a baby will do this to anyone—her uncontrollable rage is a threat to the public,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
The other two children were taken into custody by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Ross was arrested in Orange County and will be transferred to Polk County.
