Update: Chicago Woman’s Phone Found in Water After She Vanishes During Bahamas Yoga Retreat

Police found the cellphone of a Chicago woman who inexplicably vanished while on a yoga retreat in the Bahamas.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on June 19 near Paradise Island in Nassau. A friend posted on Facebook that Taylor attended a yoga retreat before she “mysteriously vanished.”

Casey, who has practiced yoga for 15 years, attended the retreat to “deepen her practice,” according to her family’s statement. She was “eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return.”

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat contacted Bahamian police after Casey didn’t attend morning classes on June 20. The retreat’s statement, obtained by CNN, indicated that police had informed the US Embassy and Casey’s family that she was missing.

On Wednesday, police found her phone in the water, but it’s unclear how far away it was from the yoga retreat.

“We have conducted extensive investigation into the matter,” Royal Bahamas Police Force Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said in a press conference Wednesday. “Our priority is to find Taylor and to find Taylor in good health.”

Meanwhile, some of Taylor’s family members have traveled to the Bahamas to search for her. They described her as a “light-skinned Black woman, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 145 pounds, with [has] brown hair and brown eyes.”

The Bahamas has been on a level 2 travel advisory since January, due to “violent crimes, including burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas,” CBS News reports.

Anyone with information on Casey’s whereabouts should contact RBPF’s Criminal Investigations Department at 502-9991/2, or Crime stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477).
