New Jersey Ex-Con Charged with Kidnapping After Statewide AMBER Alert for 2-Year-Old Tot

A domestic abduction resulted in an AMBER Alert for a 2-year-old New Jersey boy late Thursday night, police said, and the ex of the child’s mother is now facing charges.

Patterson Police responded to a call to the area of Piercy Street and Holsman Street in Paterson where a woman, 34, and her child were carjacked and kidnapped at gunpoint, according to CBS News.

Police found the child and his mother in good health at a little before 6 a.m. Friday.

Junior Nunez, 33, said to be the ex-boyfriend of the mother, is in custody for the assault, according to ABC 7.  He has also been charged with kidnapping, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, among others.

According to the Daily Voice, this isn’t the defendant’s first time facing charges. In 2020, Nunez broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Hackensack, and assaulted her twice within 19 hours. His criminal history also includes a February 2019 arrest for assault in Woodcliff Lake.

He’s also had previous arrests for criminal restraint, burglary, contempt, and harassment in Passaic County.

After his arrest on June 28, the State filed a motion to detain Nunez pending trial.
