Jocelyn Nungaray: 12-Year-Old Found Strangled Was Sexually Assaulted, Houston Forensic Science Center Confirms

Jocelyn Nungaray, the 12-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a creek in Houston last month, was sexually assaulted, the Houston Forensic Science Center confirmed Monday.

According to ABC 13, the district attorney’s office received the forensic results on Sunday.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Johan Jose Martinez Rangel, 22, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, have charged with capital murder in Jocelyn’s death. Both men are in jail on a $10 million bond.

Under Texas law, their charges initially did not qualify for the death penalty due to Jocelyn’s age. However, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg indicated last week that if sexual assault was confirmed, the case could then qualify for the death penalty, and the state could also request no bond.

Court records indicate that the two men spent hours at a local bar before encountering Jocelyn at a 7/11 convenience store, where they asked her for directions. Prosecutors stated that they lured Jocelyn to a bridge, where her body was later found with her pants missing and cuts on her body.

Both defendants are from Venezuela and are accused of entering the United States illegally.
