Sheriff’s deputies in North Carolina arrested a man this month after they found an elderly woman and more than 40 hybrid wolf-dogs living in a home that was “uninhabitable for people and dogs.”
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said it began it’s investigation earlier this month and arrested Melvin “Sonny” Berry on June 24 on one ocount of domestic elderly abuse/neglect with serious injuries, one local ordinance misdemeanor, and 20 animal cruelty charges.
Berry is not currently listed on Davidson County’s list of jail inmates, but the sheriff’s office said he is due in court on July 23.
The dogs were determined to be feral and carrying diseases and were humanely euthanized.
The sheriff’s office did not provide any further information about the elderly woman or her condition. Berry was charged with neglecting her serious injuries, but what those injuries were was not explained.
