A 15-year-old Georgia boy has been charged with the murder of his 52-year-old grandmother.

Valdosta Police said that its officers responded to a 911 call Saturday afternoon and found Nita Ann Luke dead “and covered in blood, with obvious signs of trauma to her body.”

Officers found evidence indicating the possibly involvement of Luke’s grandson in her death and found him pacing back and forth in front of her home.

The boy has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.

He’s being held in a juvenile detention center, and officials said more charges may follow.

“This is one of the most horrific crimes that I have seen,” Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan said. “I am extremely proud of the teamwork between our first officers on the scene, deputies, detectives, and crime scene personnel, working quickly to identify the offender and taking him into custody. Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Ms. Luke, as they move forward in trying to understand why this unnecessary act of violence occurred.”

The boy has not been identified because of his age.
