A 62-year-old South Carolina woman was arrested this week for the murder of a pregnant teen who was days away from giving birth when she was found dead earlier this year.
Jacqueline Reid was arrested on Monday for the deaths of Maylashia Hogg and her baby, WRDW reported.
Hogg disappeared in early February and was scheduled to deliver her baby on February 14, as CrimeOnline reported. She was found dead in a ditch less than a mile from her home in Barnwell when she didn’t show up for her induction appointment.
The girl’s family said she was excited about being a mother, and also said they don’t know the suspect, according to WRDW.
“All I can say is people are evil, evil and sick,” said her aunt, Judy Hogg.
An arrest warrant says that Reid stabbed Maylashia several times with a sharp-edged weapon around the time she disappeared. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be multiple sharp force wounds.
“I mean you have to be sick with hate to do someone like that— anybody, better yet a child. And then to know that she was gonna have her baby in less than a day or two. That’s sick,” said Judy Hogg.
Police have not said what led them to Reid or how the suspect was acquainted with the victim. The warrant for her arrest says that a search warrant at Reid’s home uncovered forensic evidence of the murder.
