An American Airlines flight from Chicago to Manchester, New Hampshire, was diverted to Buffalo, New York, Wednesday after a passenger allegedly urinated in the aisle and exposed himself.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York said that Neil McCarthy, 25, was charged with indecent exposure. He was arrested by Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Police in Buffalo after the plane made an emergency landing there.
McCarthy made an initial appearance in federal magistrate court and was released on his own recognizance.
The Associated Press reported that McCarthy was flying from Portland, Oregon, to Manchester and had multiple whiskey and cokes in Portland and still more during a layover in Chicago. He said he got up during the flight from Chicago to use the restroom but had a “medical urination” problem while on his way back to his seat, the criminal complaint said.
The flight continued to Manchester after McCarthy’s arrest. He faces six months in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
