Suspect in Murder of Maryland Mom Rachel Morin Indicted

The Venezuelan murder suspect charged with killing Maryland mom of five Rachel Morin last year was formally indicted this week by a grand jury.

Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, 23, was indicted on charges of first and second degree murder, first and second degree rape, third degree sex offense, and kidnapping, WBAL reported.

“We are relieved that the grand jury has returned an indictment in this case,” Randolph Rice, attorney for the Morin family, said in a news release. “This is a significant step toward achieving justice for Rachel Morin and holding the defendant accountable for this heinous crime. We will continue to work tirelessly to support Rachel’s family and ensure that their voice is heard throughout the legal proceedings.”

Morin, 37, was reported missing on August 5, 2023, as CrimeOnline reported. Her body was found the following day on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air. DNA from the crime scene was eventually matched with a suspect in home invasion in California, but the suspect wasn’t identified until last month.

Martinez Hernandez, who crossed into the United States illegally in January 2023 while fleeing police, was located in Oklahoma and arrested on June 14. He was brought back to Maryland on June 20, and the indictment was handed down on Tuesday. He is due in court again on July 22.
