A Kentucky woman was arrested after her newborn baby was allegedly found dead in her car trunk on Sunday.

According to WAVE, Daira Mejia Aguilar, 22, claimed she gave birth on July 2 and wrapped the baby in a blanket before putting them in a bag in her closet. Officers who responded to the Louisville home on Saturday reportedly found a bag in the closet that contained blood and flies.

The following day, officers reportedly discovered the deceased newborn in a bag in Aguilar’s car trunk. Aguilar allegedly claimed she put the baby in the trunk before cops got there.

Police wrote that the baby appeared to be “a full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition,” according to WDRB.

Aguilar is only charged with abuse of a corpse, as it is unclear whether her baby was born alive. She is due back in court on July 16.
