A Florida man has been charged with aggravated child abuse after he was seen on video holding a 4-year-old child by one foot before dropping the child off a 2nd story balcony at a Daytona Beach resort.
Brandon Gilmore reportedly told the child’s mother on Saturday he was taking the child to play and “scare him a little bit.”
“He was just like swinging in, playing with them,” Dasanni Bentley, who witnessed the troubling incident, told WESH. “And then he let him go, and he had him by one foot. And then the kid slipped right out of him and fell directly on his head on the concrete, no grass.”
Bentley said the child’s face turned purple after slamming into the concrete. The child was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center on a trauma alert, police said, and was released from the hospital on Monday, the Daytona Beach News Journal reported.
Gilmore told police he met the woman and her son at about 3 p.m. on Saturday and had only known them for about five hours when he dropped the child on his head.
The Florida Department of Children and Families took a report of the incident, an affidavit said.
Gilmore is being held without bond at the Volusia County jail.
