Gypsy Rose Blanchard — who spent seven years in prison for having her mother killed in 2015 — announced on Tuesday that she is pregnant with her first child.
Blanchard, 32, took to social media and said she was 11 weeks pregnant with boyfriend Ken Urker, 31, who was formerly her pen pal. Urker and Blanchard’s relationship ended before Blanchard’s release from prison last year as Blanchard married Ryan Anderson while behind bars, according to People.
In April, Blanchard announced her split from Anderson. Urker and Blanchard got back together the following month.
“I know that there are going to be people who feel like I’m not ready to be a mother,” said in a YouTube video posted on Tuesday. “All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby.”
Blanchard was convicted of second degree murder for having her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, go to her family’s home in Springfield to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
Dee Dee Blanchard is believed to have suffered from Munchausen by proxy — which entailed forcing her daughter to use a wheelchair and subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments. Before the slaying, Dee Dee Blanchard allegedly isolated her daughter and tied her to a bed to stop her from escaping.
Blanchard was released on December 28. According to Missouri state law, Blanchard qualified for early release after serving 85 percent of her sentence, which she completed.
Blanchard said she is due in January.
