Two women have been arrested and charged with killing a man in April and then using his severed thumb to steal money through his cell phone.

Fasil Teklemariam, 53, was found dead in his apartment in northwest Washington, D.C., on April 5, WTOP reported.

According to D.C. police, Tiffany Taylor Gray, 22, and Audrey Denise Miller, 19, have been charged with first degree murder while armed.

An autopsy found that Teklemariam died from multiple blunt force fractures to the head and a stab wound that punctured his stomach, small intestine and aorta and struck his spine, according to WTOP. His right thumb was missing.

Court documents say that Teklemariam was Gray’s “sugar daddy” and that she was engaged in prostitution.

According to a witness, Gray used his thumb to access a payment app on his phone and used it to pay for Uber, marijuana, and alcohol, the documents say.

The documents further say that surveillance footage showed the two women, along with two men, coming and going from the victim’s apartment, carrying various items out, including his electronics.

Police traced Gray to the crime after Teklemariam filed a complaint with DC police last October saying she took his phone and made payments through a payment app without his permission.

Gray is also accused of stealing from romantic partners she met on dating apps in Maryland and using false identities to hide from police.

Miller made her first appearance on Teklemariam’s murder on June 22 and is due back in court on July 30. Gray was arrested on July 1 in Maryland and is awaiting extradition to DC.
