Developing: 5-Year-old Foster Child Found Dead Inside SUV, Marking 10th Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke in US This Year

Omaha police are investigating the death of a child found dead inside an SUV Wednesday.

According to ABC 7, officers arrived at 93rd and Binney streets shortly after 5 p.m. CPR was performed, and the child was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.

A witness told the outlet that he and the child’s mother rushed out of a beauty salon to an SUV and found the child inside. According to Omaha police, the 5-year-old child was in foster care and had been inside the vehicle for “multiple hours.”

The Herald reports that June 10 was the “hottest day in the month so far in Omaha.”

So far, no charges have been filed in the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.

According to NoHeatStroke.org, this is the 10th pediatric vehicular heatstroke death this year alone in the U.S.
