A New York man pleaded guilty Monday to raping and killing a 3-year-old girl last July.

Josefina Cunningham died after she was found unconscious and foaming from the mouth at her Rensselaer County home on July 7, 2023. Robert Fisher, 34, who was arrested after he tried to return to the crime scene, was watching Cunningham when she was mortally injured, according to the Times Union.

Authorities indicated that Fisher raped Cunningham and caused her death, WRGB reported.

Fisher admitted to giving Cunningham her mother’s prescription pills before the sexual assault.

“The child then died, and he did try to clean her up with Clorox wipes,” Rensselaer County Assistant District Attorney Antonia Edwards said, according to WTEN.

Fisher pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree rape. Sentencing is scheduled for August 6.

Jy’Quan Stewart said of his slain sister, “She would like to play around a lot with her toys and stuff like that. She always wanted to be a firefighter. That’s what she wanted to do when she grew up. She always used to talk about being a firefighter.”
