Police in Mississippi arrested two Tennessee women last week and charged them with human trafficking.
Tupelo Police said they “received information” one night of possible prostitution taking place at a local motel. When they arrived, they contacted three people inside a room.
The investigators arrested Terraneika Poplar, 19, and Destiney Plummer, 20, both of Memphis, and charged them with human trafficking. They also reportedly rescued a female child of an undisclosed age at the scene.
Police did not make clear if the juvenile was the third person at the motel room.
“This is a despicable crime and TPD will use all available resources to make sure these offenders, or any future offenders, are brought to justice,” Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka said. “It saddens me that this type of crime occurs.”
He did not explain exactly what type of crime occurred.
Quaka said police were assisted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services, and the Center for Violence Prevention.
Poplar and Plummer were both denied bond at a later court appearance.
