An Arizona man was arrested on Sunday after his 9-year-old son was reportedly found dead in his home
The Arizona Republic reported that the boy’s body was discovered following a medical call to the family’s Picture Rocks home. The boy’s father, Joseph Antonsen, 38, allegedly told police that his son became sick on Friday and did not have a pulse by the time he put him in the car to get medical attention.
Despite this, Antonsen allegedly left the home for an unknown location instead of getting help for his son. The medical call was placed two days later.
According to KOLD, responding police officers found the 9-year-old boy, decomposing and sitting upright on a couch. Piles of trash reportedly surrounded the boy’s body — in addition to piles of diapers, rotten food, beer cans, and one-gallon bottles filled with urine.
Officers also noticed black widow and brown recluse spiders in the home. The home did not have running water or operating toilets, the Arizona Republic reported.
Investigators said the boy appeared to have been dead “for an extended period.” A resident told KOLD they had not seen Antonsen’s son in a month.
“His son was really cute. He was a really friendly kid who had a lot off … I’m sorry,” the neighbor said.
“He was very polite. He was a lot friendlier than his dad.”
Antonsen is charged with negligent homicide and child abuse. He remains jailed on a $500,000 bond as he awaits a July 25 court hearing.
