A North Carolina woman was charged on Friday with killing her 9-month-old daughter last week.
On July 12, Catawba County police responding to reports of a suspicious person allegedly found Megan Sattizahn, 39, who appeared disoriented. Officers followed Sattizahn to her home and found her baby deceased inside, according to WJZY.
Sattizahn allegedly admitted to killing her daughter — describing it as a “mercy killing.” She also claimed she tried to poison her daughter in December because “God told her to,” according to WSOC.
Sattizahn’s daughter’s cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy. However, WHKY reported that foul play is suspected.
WSOC reported that in 2017, Sattizahn picked up her 8-year-old daughter from school and vanished with her for days. At the time, police said there were concerns due to Sattizahn’s mental state and recent behavior. The pair was eventually found unharmed in Missouri.
Sattizahn was hospitalized before she was charged with murder. She is due in court on Monday.
