A 29-year-old Utah man was arrested Friday night for allegedly trying to kidnap a 12-year-old girl.

Salt Lake City police said the incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. when Mason Andrew Musser allegedly grabbed the 12-year-old by the wrist as she walked in the Sugar House neighborhood with a friend and tried to pull her away, KUTV reported.

The girl and her friend fought back and broke away from him. They quickly waved down a community member, who called 911.

Police searched the area and found Musser, who has been charged with attempted child kidnapping.

Police would like to speak with the community member who helped the two girls, saying that person could have “critical information to the case.”
