A Pennsylvania woman captured on surveillance footage shooting a baby in the leg has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Philadelphia Police said 28-year-old Dominique Billips fired multiple shots, apparently targeting the baby’s father over a $100 drug debt, but only struck the the 7-month-old boy, WCAU reported.
The mother screamed, “My baby!” and Billups replied, “F*** your baby, b****,” before walking away.
The parents fled and later told police they left the scene because they feared they would be arrested for outstanding warrants. A good Samaritan took the child to the hospital, where he was in stable condition.
“When I find out the baby was 7 months and both parents said they have warrants. They got out the car and I took the baby,” the witness told WCAU, declining to identify himself. “I just felt like I had to protect this child. It was overwhelming. It was scary. This person came up and didn’t care with no remorse and just fired and walked away like nothing happened.”
Philadelphia Police Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said tips from the public led investigators to Billups.
“This looks like this all stems from a $100 narcotics debt, is what we are being told,” Rosenbaum said. ” So it’s sad, you see that video, she literally points the gun at the mother of the baby — who is also a juvenile — and fires. Luckily she missed and that’s probably when the baby got hit.”
Billups is awaiting arraignment on the aggravated assault and other related charges.
