Georgia sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a fetus was found in a dumpster at a Grovetown Walmart on Tuesday.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Major Steve Morris told the Augusta Chronicle the department was called shortly before 6 p.m.

The fetus is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy, he said.

Officials know who the mother is and have interviewed her, Morris said.

The sheriff’s office said Wellstar MCG Health contacted them about the discovery, WJBF reported.

Grovetown is a small city about 12 miles west of Augusta.

No other information was released.
