Mom, 39, Charged With Murder in ‘Mercy Killing’ of 9-Month-Old Baby

A North Carolina woman has been arrested for the “mercy killing” of her 9-month-old daughter.

Megan Stack Sattizahn, 39, was arrested on Friday, a week after deputies found her walking naked and disoriented near her home in Catawba County, WSOC reported.

The deputies followed her when she ran off to her home, where she stopped and told the deputies, “Everyone come in, the baby is dead,” PEOPLE said, citing a probable cause affidavit.

Deputies went inside, where they found 9-month-old Samantha Sattizahn dead.

Court documents say that Sattizahn admitted killing the little girl, describing it as a “mercy killing,” according to WSOC A search warrant says that she allegedly tried to kill her daughter in December with prescription medications. She said that “God told her to” do it, although that attempted murder was not reported to authorities.

Investigators told the station that Sattizahn, then known as Megan Stack, was invlved in another case in 2017 in Charlotte when she picked up her then 8-year-old daughter from school and disappeared. They were found in Missouri days lateri.

According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Sattizahn was charged with murder after autopsy results were returned. Investigators have not said how the baby died.

Sattizahn is being held without bond and is due in court again on August 12.
