A 17-year-old Georgia girl was found dead over the weekend, and the man suspected of killing her is in critical condition with a gunshot wound.
Savannah Police said they were called to the home of Maria Pollock Saturday night on a report of gunshot, WJCL reported.
Maurice Pollock, 43, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Police have not explained the relationship between the girl and her suspected killer, but her aunt, Lakesha Leach, told WTOC that Maurice Pollock was Maria’s father. Leach said he stabbed the girl to death with a box cutter before trying to kill himself.
The Chatham County coroner said that the teen had a least one stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“By the time we got here, everything was taped off, cops were out here, forensics everybody so we definitely knew it was really bad and that’s when we found out she was deceased,” Leach said.
Leach said the teen had just been selected to be a cheerleader at Beach High School.
“That’s not a call you want to hear. You hope for the best as a family, but when you find out what’s going on its really devastating for her mom and all her family right now,” she said. “Especially her siblings and everybody. It’s just so soon and its too early. Moms should never loose their parents before they’re gone, no parent should.”
Savannah Police told WTOC that Maurice Pollock’s condition had been upgraded to stable by Tuesday and that he would be charged with murder when he is released from the hospital.
