‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Busted on Child Porn Charges, Catfished Teens for Sexually-Explicit Photos

A New York man who appeared on “Jeopardy!” turned himself in on Thursday for soliciting sexually-explicit photos from children.

According to the New York Times, math teacher Winston Nguyen, 37, was first arrested last month at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights. In at least 11 instances between October 2022 and May 2024, Nguyen allegedly pretended to be a teen or classmate to get illicit pictures from children.

Nguyen allegedly used two Snapchat accounts to get images from five girls and one boy, all of whom were between the ages of 13 and 15. Prosecutors said Nguyen also sent the explicit photos he got from the victims to other children, according to the New York Times.

The New York Post reported that the victims were students at four different schools in New York City. Sources told the news outlet that investigators are trying to determine whether there are victims outside of the city.

The New York Times reported that Nguyen was previously jailed for five months for stealing $300,000 from an elderly couple he was caring for. He was eventually sentenced to time served.

Nguyen appeared on “Jeopardy!” twice in 2014, winning once.

Nguyen is charged with using a child in a sexual performance, promoting a sexual performance by a child, and disseminating indecent material to a minor. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday.
