Investigators in Georgia announced late Thursday night that 12-year-old Maria Gomez-Perez, missing since May, had been found in another state.
“Maria is safe and OK,” the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Facebook.
The department did not say where the girl was found, adding that “additional updates on the recovery are not expected tonight.”
Gomez-Perez was last seen at her home in Gainesville on May 29, as CrimeOnline reported. The disappearance sparked an intensive search and a reward that reached $50,000.
Investigators received hundreds of tips.
“The tireless work of our CIB, law enforcement partners and the community has resulted in the best possible outcome,” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said in the Facebook statement. “Our prayers for Maria’s safe return have been answered.”
Investigators are still looking into the circumstances of the disappearance, while working to bring Gomez-Perez back to her Georgia home.
